"Bridging Generations: Exploring EU Politics and Democratic Engagement"

"Bridging Generations: Exploring EU Politics and Democratic Engagement"

On May 22nd, 2023, the first event of our initiative was held at the Cavan Crystal Hotel, Ireland. The event brought together 41 participants from different generations for a full day of discussions and activities, aiming to strengthen their understanding of the European Union and encourage active democratic participation.

The event sought to foster meaningful intergenerational dialogue between young and senior citizens. By enhancing their knowledge of the EU, introducing e-democracy tools, and highlighting the importance of voting, participants were inspired to engage more actively in democratic processes, including the upcoming 2024 EU Parliament elections.

Guest speaker Brendan Smith, TD (MP), contributed valuable insights into the connection between local, national, and EU politics. His presence enriched the discussions and provided participants with a deeper understanding of the role of representatives in EU governance.

Throughout the day, participants explored key topics such as the benefits of being an EU member state, the accessibility of EU representatives, and the significance of voting in shaping the future of the EU. Discussions emphasized the importance of e-democracy tools in modern governance and encouraged attendees to reflect on their own roles in the democratic process.

This event served as a platform to empower citizens with knowledge and motivation, fostering a sense of responsibility and engagement in shaping a more democratic and inclusive European future.
